Frequently Asked Questions

What are the steps to enroll?

For more detailed information on enrollment, please visit the How to Enroll webpage.

How do I know if I need a placement test?

There are multiple ways to meet the placement requirements and prerequisites for courses at ICC. You can send qualifying test scores, send a college transcript, or take our placement tests. If you are unsure, please contact the ICC Admissions Office at (309) 694-5200 or admissions@icc.edu for assistance in deciding which option is best.

Do I have to declare a program of study or certificate program?

To earn a degree, you must declare a program of study. If a student is filing for the FAFSA, a program declaration is required. The good news is, you can declare your program of study as undecided until you have a better idea what pathway suits you.

What are the different degree options ICC offers and do they all transfer?

ICC offers an Associates in Arts, Associates in Science, Associates in Applied Science and various certificate options. Programs can be completed in one to two years, depending on how many credits you take each semester. Going part-time versus full-time will extend the time it takes to complete a degree or certificate. For more details, you can visit icc.edu/catalog.

ICC has numerous articulation agreements and partnerships to help our students have a seamless transfer to a four-year college or university. Our Transfer Coordinator can help with all the details once a student is enrolled.

What is a general education course?

General education courses are required for every student to make your education well-rounded. Commonly referred to as “Gen Eds,” these courses are the foundation of an associates degree and count towards graduation requirements. They can include the courses required such as Math, Science, and English. For more information, contact advising at advising@icc.edu or (309) 694-5281.

What do I need to know about financial aid?

Please visit the Financial Aid FAQs webpage.

Note: Even if you qualify for financial aid, your ability to continue receiving assistance is also dependent on your GPA and completion rate.

How do I know what Early College Courses a student could benefit from taking in high school?

Early College courses allow a student to earn college credit simultaneous to earning high school credit, adapt to more rigorous studies, and reduce the time required to complete a certificate or degree post-secondary. ICC’s Early College is offered at a lower cost. To determine the best courses for the students’ future goals, contact advising at advising@icc.edu or (309) 694-5281.

What types of scholarships and tuition waivers does ICC offer?

Illinois Central College Educational Foundation offers over 600 scholarships annually. Students may apply for a scholarship at icc.edu/scholarships. The application window is October 1 - March 1 for the following academic year.

Tuition waivers are also a possibility for our students qualified for the Honors Program, Vocal Jazz, Theatre, and Livestock Judging. For more information on these specialty areas, contact your Admissions Representative.

What programs require more than just the general application for admission?

Health Careers, Diesel Powered Equipment Technology (DPET), General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP), and Paralegal programs all require additional application processes for admission.  Work with your Admissions Representative to review requirements and admissions practices for these selective programs.

Where can I find the current class schedule and catalog?
