Truck Driver Training
ICC’s Truck Driver Training Program will prepare you for a career which offers independence and a salary that may range from $35,000 to over $75,000. Our expert instructors will help you master the skills necessary to successfully pass the Illinois Secretary of State’s Class A road test as well as learn the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, endorsement preparation, logbook protocol, and map reading and trip planning.
You’ll Learn:

You’ll also get complete training on an 18-wheeler. At the end of the course, you’ll take the Illinois Secretary of State’s Class A road test.
Once you have completed the program, you may be recruited by local and/or regional companies. Because of our excellent reputation in the industry and the network of potential employers, it is common for our new drivers to earn a position within a short time of finishing. Requirements
The following may disqualify individuals:
1. Driving record inconsistent with industry standard for entry level driving positions.
2. Any alcohol-related violations on motor vehicle record in the past three years.
3. Recent felony convictions or criminal background.
4. History of drug or alcohol abuse.
5. History of mental disorder.
6. Permanent disability or physical limitations.
It is recommended that individuals obtain a copy of their Motor Vehicle Report ($12) from the Secretary of State’s Office (Driver’s License Bureau) prior to starting the program.
Illinois Central College has a ZERO TOLERANCE stance on drugs and alcohol. While in truck driver training class, students will be in a consortium-based random drug and alcohol testing program.

- HazMat Endorsement – if applicable ($86.50 for fingerprinting and background check)
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) “Smart Card” ($129.75) – if applicable

REFUND POLICY
Withdrawal with refund must occur by the end of the second day the class meets.
Auxiliary Courses
Refresher Course
Designed to facilitate driver’s ability to regain entry into the trucking industry when they have been away a little too long to meet hiring criteria.
- Must have CDL-A license.
- Content is based on skills demonstrated through a Vehicular Skills Evaluation given prior to admittance into the course.
- DOT physical and drug screen required.
Transition Course
Designed to assist drivers relocating to Illinois with an out-of-state CDL-A license to learn and pass necessary criteria. Truck is supplied by ICC for the behind-the-wheel test with Secretary of State Driver Bureau.
- Content based on Vehicular Skills Evaluation.
- Prepare for written exam.
- Learn pre-trip skills.
- Road Test
- DOT physical & Drug Screen required.
Two Day Hazmat Training Course
Designed to teach importance of proper knowledge and procedure when working with HazMat materials.
- Need to have copy of TSA clearance for fingerprint and background check prior to training for proof of commercial use.
- Emphasis on Federal Guidelines.
- Prepare student for HazMat Endorsement Test
Two Day Pre-Trip Inspection
Designed to fulfill CSA 2010* requirements and protocols.
- Learning and identifying proper names of truck parts.
- Pre-trip protocols taught only. Some study involved.
