Online Faculty Fellows

How does the Online Faculty Fellows program work?

Step 1: A faculty member teaching online (Participant) volunteers to do an online course design or redesign project and a Master Online Teacher, certified or in progress (completed at least 2 MOT classes or alternative certification), commits to be a Fellow to assist the Participant.

Step 2: Paired Fellows and Participants receive information about “how to/what to do” in the fellows arrangement, including using the Quality Online Course Initiative (QOCI) Rubric and other materials to plan and support an online course design or redesign project.

Step 3: Participant works on a course design or redesign project, conferring with Fellow over the bulk of the semester.

Step 4: During the next Celebration of Learning or other appropriate forum, the Participant showcases the course design or redesign project.

Online Faculty Partnership Program funding:

  • Participant: $630, paid after the showcase and approval from the Associate Dean
  • MOT Fellow: $315, paid after the showcase and approval from the Associate Dean

How much time is really expected?

In mini-grant funding terms, a $630 grant is equivalent to at least 25 hours, up to 50 hours of work. A $315 grant is at least 10 hours of work, up to 25 hours of work. In other words, a Participant should allocate 25-50 hours of work to this project, and a Fellow should allocate 10-25 hours of work to this project.

Program Notes

  1. Program coordinators will attempt to pair fellows and participants based on preferences such as in or out of specific disciplines, and/or specific areas of interest or expertise. These preferences will be addressed in the program application materials.
  2. Funding is available when this activity is not used for units or credit toward the adjunct faculty blueprint plan or on any other sort of paid time (staff hours, for example)
  3. Program participation may be limited to:
    1. A maximum number of fellowships (fellow/participant) per term enrolled in the program
    2. A maximum number of fellowships per term per person; for example, an MOT may be limited to partnering with no more than 2 participants per term
    3. Limiting to 1 the number of projects in which a participant can be enrolled
    4. A rotation among MOTs, allowing those who have not previously participated in the program to partner with a participant before anyone who has already participated in the program.
